Back from a marathon session in Hawaii. I am now a member of the board of directors in a start-up. Very interesting work. The company does a fair amount of business in Japan, seventeen hours ahead of Oahu. Let's say that makes for a very long day (the Japanese work all the time anyway). In Japanese business cunning and deviousness are par for the course (Machievelli could well have been Japanese), but straight business logic is spomewhat rare. The worst thing is to be gaijin, a loose label which includes every non-Japanese.
